This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1Pla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Vilnyus Army Barracks and School North-
east is situated 2 kilometers (km) northeast of
Vilnyus, along the east bank of the Viliya River
(Figure 1). There are at least 3 other military
installations within the Vilnyus complex.
This area covers 67 acres and contains 5
multistory barracks or classrooms, 2 barracks,
3 administration buildings, 7 support buildings,
2 vehicle maintenance/storage buildings, a large
military hospital, 3 other buildings, and an uni-
dentified open storage area (Figures 2 and 3).

The installation has access to a primary
road north to Pabrade and roads leading into
Vilnyus.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl contains 5 multistory barracks
or classrooms, 2 single-story barracks, I multi-
story administration building, 2 single-story ad-
ministration buildings, 1 storage building, and 3
miscellaneous support buildings.
Area D2 contains a large multistory military
hospital.
Other Buildings
Area H contains 2 unidentified buildings and
4 miscellaneous support buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area JI contains one 250- by 45-foot vehicle
maintenance/storage building and one 120- by
35-foot vehicle maintenance/storage building.
Area J2 contains unidentified open storage.
