This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

The Tambov Artillery OCS is located in
the northeastern part of Tambov (Figure 1).
This installation covers approximately 52
acres and contains 2 administration buildings, 6
barracks, 7 officers /dependents quarters, 8
storage buildings, 17 support buildings, a ve-
sicle maintenance building, 2 small -arms firing
ranges, and an athletic field (Figures 2 and 3).

Comparative analysis reveals no c ange
in facilities and a consistently high level of
activity during this period.
Road Service
The installation is served by city streets.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl contains 2 administration buildings,
4 barracks, and 3 support buildings.
Area D2 contains 2 barracks.
Area D3 contains 7 officers/dependents
quarters and a support building.
General Storage Areas
Area El contains 8 storage buildings and
12 support buildings.
Area E2 contains open storage.
POL Storage Area
Light medium POL storage tanks and 24
small tanks are in the southern part of Tambov
F.quiprnent Storage /Maintenance Area
Area J contains a vehicle maintenance build-
ing (205 by 65 feet) and a support building.

Athletic Field
Area K is an athletic field.
Small-Arms Firing Ranges
Area L I is a small-arms firing range 670
feet long and 60 feet wide.
Area L2 is a small-arms firing range 330
feet long and 70 feet wide.
