This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center IPla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (II) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

't'his installation is located approximately
2.2 kilometers (km) north-northeast of the
Aksay Highway Bridge over the Don River and
approximately 7 km northeast of Rostov, head-
quarters of the North Caucasus Military Dis-
trict (Figure 1).
The barracks area occupies approximately
62 acres and has 72 buildings: 19 barracks,
1 administration, 8 storage, 21 miscellaneous
support, 19 probable quarters, 1 probable mess-
hall, 1 probable headquarters, and 2 probable
sentry towers (Figures 2 and 3).
_KL YHOLE missions of fair- to good-
quality photography between
ave been interpreted. Construc-
tion activity was evident throughout this period,
chiefly in the main barracks area. Most of the
large buildings were completed in

Railroad Service
The installation uses Aksay rail facilities.
Road Service
Aksay streets serve the installation.
Aircraft Landing Strips
Rostov East Airfield is located approxi-
mately 3.5 kni west.
Administrative and 'Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl contains a general storage building
25X1 D built in the winter of a possible messhall
25X1 D built betwee 3 large barracks
built betwee small barracks,
and 7 miscellaneous support buildings.
Area D2 contains 1 probable headquarters
building.
Area D3 contains 19 possible quarters, 7
possible barracks, and 16 miscellaneous support
buildings.
POL Storage Area
Ihere is a secured POL storage area 3.2
km west of Rostov Northeast Airfield.
Equipment Storage /Maintenance Area
Area J contains four 40- by 130-foot storage
buildings, two 40- by 90-foot storage buildings,
one 20- by 150-foot storage building, I adminis-
tration building, 4 miscellaneous support build-
ings, and probable sentry towers.
Area KI is a probable parade ground and
Area K2 is a probable athletic field.
