A large military training area is located
adjacent to the northwest edge of Saratovskaya
25X1;D and extends northward 12.8 kilometers (km)
(Figure 1). The training area is also approxi-
mately 32 km southeast of Krasnodar and prob-
ably serves as a field training area for units
25X1 D in that sector. The training area covers ap-

proximately 48 sq km and consists of a tent
cantonment area, a tank firing range and sup-
port area, a driver-training course, and various
other ranges and maneuver areas (Figure 2).
(The exact limits of the training area, particu-
larily in the west, are poorly defined.)

- a period of snow cover, the only track
activity discernible was in the tank firing
range. The cantonment area appeared to be
completely unused.
the activity level was very high. In
from 40 to 50 unidentified
vehicles were discernible in Area J2 and tents
were discernible in Areas Dl and D2, although
a large portion of those 2 areas is obscured by
trees. Except for seasonal changes in activity,
the training area has remained relatively un-
change
A first class, all-weather road extends
along the entire eastern edge of the training
area. Secondary roads connect the training
area facilities with the main road and numerous
trails and vehicle tracks are visible within
the training area. The main road continues
north to Krasnodar.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl contains 4 multistory barracks,
1 T-shaped multistory administration building,
1 general storage building, approximately 100
tent bases, and 5 support buildings.
Area D2 contains 1 T-shaped administration
building, approximately 600 tent bases (exact
count is not possible because of trees in the
area), and 25 support buildings.
POL Storage Area
The training area is adjacent to an extensive
oil field. Numerous POL storage tanks are in
the vicinity.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains a vehicle maintenance
area 400 by 300 feet, 1 vehicle storage building
200 by 50 feet, and 2 vehicle maintenance
buildings 25 by 50 feet. The area provides
direct support for the tank firing range.
Area J2 is a vehicle park 6,000 by 300 feet.
This area is used as a vehicle park only. No
maintenance facilities are evident.
Athletic Fields
Areas K1 and K2 are athletic fields with
oval exercise tracks.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is a possible small-arms firing
range measuring 600 by 400 feet.
Driver-Training Area
Area M is a large, irregular-shaped closed-
loop driver-training course.

14-18 emplacements.
Area Q2 is an impact area approximately
9,000 yards northwest of Area Infantry Field Training Area

tracks, foot trails, and scarring indicate an
infantry maneuver area.
Unidentified Facilities or Tracking Activity
Area Ti contains a loop road and a
clearing--indicating some type of military
activity.
Area T2 contains a loop road and a
clearing- -indicating some type of military
activity.
