This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firingranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Pogranichnyy Arm Barracks North (BE No

northwest of the center of Pogranichnyy (44-24N
131-22E) and Pogranichnyy Headquarters Uni-

northwest of the center of Pogranichnyy (Fig-
ure 1).
Pogranichnyy Army Barracks North covers
approximately 225 acres and contains 2 admin-
istration/support buildings, 4 barracks, 3 vehi-
cle sheds/storage buildings, 2 probable ex-
plosives storage buildings, 22 support buildings,
an athletic field, and a parade field.
Pogranichnyy Headquarters Unidentified
Division covers approximately 215 acres and
contains an administration building, 6 barracks/

support buildings, 3 probable explosives storage
buildings, and 16 support buildings. The instal-
lation also contains a suspect underground stor-
age area and' an `area of unidentified tracking
activity (Figures 2 and 3).

Secondary, probable all-weather roads con-
nect the installation with Pogranichnyy.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area.:'Dl contains 2 administration/support
buildings, ":.4 barracks, and a support building.
Area D2 contains an administration build-
ing, 6 barracks/storage buildings, a suspect
underground; storage area, and 3 support build-
ings. The suspect underground storage area is
similar to an area in the Iman Army Barracks
Sebuchan (45-47N 133-39E).
Ammunition Storage Areas
Area F1 contains 2 probable explosives
storage buildings, enclosed by a security fence.
Area F2 contains a probable explosives
storage building, enclosed by a security fence.
Area F3 contains 2 probable explosives
storage buildings and 2 support buildings, en-
closed by a security fence.
POL Storage Area
A probable POL storage area is 8 km south-
east of the installations at Barano-Orenburg-
skoye.
Other Buildings
Thirty support buildings are scattered
throughout the installation.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area
Area J contains 3 vehicle sheds/storage
buildings, approximately 305 by 45 feet, and 2
support buildings.
Athletic Fields
Area K1 is a parade field.
Area K2 is an athletic field.
