This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firingranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Barabash Army Barracks is located in the
northern part of Barabash (Figure 1). Associated
driver-training circuits and tank/assault-gun
firing ranges are located 2 kilometers (km)
northeast and 17 km southwest of the main bar-
racks area, respectively.
Barabash Army Barracks and its training
facilities cover approximately 2,355 acres and
contain a total of 190 buildings, including 8
administration, 16 barracks, 10 barracks/sup-
port, 36 quarters-type, 1 bivouac area, 32
storage, 13 vehicle sheds, 4 explosives storage,
71 support buildings, and 1 athletic field. The
training area contains 3 driver-training cir-
cuits, 2 tank/assault-gun firing ranges, 1 field-
gun battery, and 1 unidentified training facility
(Figures 2 and 3).

DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
General Storage Areas
The Kraskino-Ussuriysk rail line passes
7.5 km southeast of this installation.
The Kraskino-Ussuriysk primary road
passes through the installation. Secondary
roads and tank trails connect this installation
with the training facilities.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 contains 1 administration build-
ing, 4 barracks /support buildings, 15 quar-
ters-type buildings, and 2 support buildings.
The buildings appear to be occupied throughout
the year.
Area D2 contains 4 administration build-
ings, 16 barracks, 11 quarters-type buildings,
and 18 support buildings.
Area D3 is a bivouac area.
Area D4 contains 1 administration building,
6 barracks /support buildings, 10 quarters-type
buildings, and 6 support buildings.
Area El contains 2 storage buildings.
Area E2 contains 8 storage buildings.
Area E3 contains 1 administration building,
8 storage buildings, and 6 support buildings.
Area E4 contains 1 administration building,
4 storage buildings, and 7 support buildings.
Area E5 contains 10 storage buildings.
Ammunition Storage Area
Area F (not shown on Figure 3) is probably
doubly secured and contains 4 explosives storage
buildings.
Other Buildings
Thirty support buildings are dispersed
throughout the area (25 of which are not on
sketch).
Equipment Storage/ Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains 3 vehicle sheds, two
385 by 40 feet and one 330 by 40 feet, and 1
support building.
