This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a lIIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center IYla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1Pla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
I itles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(1)) administrative and troop housing areas, (I?) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) PO], storage areas, (Il) other buildings and
facilities, (.l) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Ulyanovsk Army Barracks OCS is located
in the northeastern section of Ulyanovsk, ap-
proximately 3 kilometers (km) northwest of
the Ulyanovsk Railroad Bridges over the Volga
River (Figure 1).
The installation covers approximately 90
acres and contains 51 buildings, including 1
probable headquarters, 2 possible barracks, 7
barracks/support, I possible gymnasium,
possible administration, 3 storage, and 32
miscellaneous support (Figures 2 and 3).
Comparative analysis
Railroad Service
The installation has access to urban rail
facilities.
Road Service
Aircraft Landing Strip
Ulyanovsk Southwest Airfield is 12 km
southwest.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl contains 6 U-shaped multistory
buildings (possibly used for barracks and class-
rooms), I U-shaped multistory building with a
possible communications antenna, 20 support
buildings, 3 multistory support buildings, 2
possible multistory barracks, 1 multistory prob-
able headquarters with 2 wings, 3 possible ad-
ministration buildings (each with 2 wings),
and 1 multistory probable administration build-
ing.
Area D2 contains 6 miscellaneous support
buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area
Area J contains 3 storage buildings (two
160 by 75 feet and one 230 by 40 feet), I L-shaped
administration building, and 3 support buildings.
Athletic Fields
Area KI contains an athletic field and a
possible gymnasium.
Area K2 contains a swimming pool.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L contains a 550- by 55-foot, wel
bunkered, small-arms firing range and 2 rang
support buildings.
