This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division..
In the interest of uniformity, the titles anct letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Petropavlovsk Army Barracks is located
5 kilometers (km) east-southeast of Petro-
pavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (Figure 1).
The installation covers approximately 1,175
acres and contains 269 buildings, including 3
administration buildings, 8 probable barracks,
9 large quarters-type housing units, 78 small
quarters-type housing units, 19 storage build-
ings, 13 probable explosives storage buildings,
3 vehicle sheds, 128 support buildings, 6 range
control/support buildings, and 2 unidentified
multistory buildings. It also contains an athletic/
parade field, an open storage area, 3 motor
parks, a driver-training course, and a tank/
assault-gun firing range (Figures 2 and 3).
The installation has been covered by'KEY-
A secondary probable all-weather road
connects the installation with Petropavlovsk-
Kamchatskiy.
Aircraft Landing Strip
Petropavlovsk/Ozero Khal Akhtyrka Sea-
plane Station is adjacent to the northwest edge
of the installation.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl contains 8 probable barracks, 8
quarters-type housing units, 2 unidentified
multistory buildings, 1 motor park, 320 by 160
feet, and 35 support buildings.
Area D2 contains approximately 45
quarters-type housing units.
Area D3 contains 3 administration and 22
support buildings.
Area D4 contains 9 large quarters-type
housing units, approximately 25 quarters-type
housing units, and 5 support buildings.

Three POL storage areas are located in

buildings are dispersed throughout the in-
stallation.
