This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division,
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firingranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Pogranichnyy Army Barracks Orenburg-
skoye is located immediately southwest of
Barano-Orenburgskoye and 7 kilometers (km)
southeast of Pogranichnyy (Figure 1).
The installation and a related training
area, located 4 km south of the barracks
area, cover approximately 870 acres and con-
tain 3 administration buildings, an administra-
tion/support building, 8 barracks, 17 storage
buildings, 4 storage/vehicle sheds, 34 support
buildings, an open storage area, 2 athletic
fields, a possible small-arms firing range,
a tank/assault-gun firing range, and a tracked/
wheeled-vehicle driver-training circuit. A
probably related probable POL storage area
contains 5 probable POL tanks and 7 support
buildings (Figures 2 and 3).

Comparative analysis reveals that the train-
ing area and probably the barracks area were
constructed prior to_ There has been no
significant change in facilities, light to medium
activity at the barracks area, and no activity to
light activity at the training area except during
when the range and driver-training
course were moderately active.
Railroad Service
A single track rail line is immediately
northeast of the installation.
Road Service
Secondary probable all-weather roads con-
nect the barracks area with the training area
and Pogranichnyy.
Administration and Troop Housing Area
Area D contains 3 administration buildings,
an administration/support building, 8 barracks,
3 storage buildings, and 17 support buildings.
General Storage Areas
Area El contains 7 storage and 2 support
buildings.
Area E2 is fenced and contains 4 storage/
vehicle sheds (265 by 40 feet) and 4 storage
buildings.
Area E3 contains an open storage area con-

POL Storage Area
Area G is a probably related, rail served,
probable POL storage area containing 5 prob-
able buried POL tanks and 7 support buildings.
This area probably also provides support for
the Barano-Orenburgskoye Airfield.
Other Buildings
Fifteen support buildings are dispersed
throughout the installation.
Athletic Fields
Areas K1 and K2 are athletic fields.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is an approximately 550- by 40-
foot small-arms firing range constructed prior
Driver-Training Area
Area M is a tracked/wheeled-vehicle
driver-training course with 2 irregularly shaped
closed circuits. The course was constructed
prior to
