This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NP IC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1Pla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

A probable military installation is located
17 kilometers (km) east of the center of Baku,
near the town of Gousan (Figure 1).
The installation covers approximately 60
acres, is walled and fenced, and contains a
barracks and administration area with 6 bar-
racks, 2 administration buildings, 5 warehouses,
and 5 support structures; 2 motor pools with
6 structures, 28 vehicles, and 16 possible ve-
hicles; a secured storage area, and a combined-
arms training area with 1 warehouse (Figures
2 and 3).
The area was covered on I KEYHOLE mis-
sion of interpretable photography in May 1965.
Road Service
Rail service is available in Surakhany, 6
km north.
Road Service
Good secondary roads serve the area.
Aircraft Landing Strip
I3aku-Gousan Airfield is 7 km east.
Administration and Troop Housing Area
Area D contains 6 barracks, 2 adminis-
tration buildings, 5 warehouses, and 5 support
structures. The area is wall and fence secured.
General Storage.Area
Area E is fenced and contains 2 storage
buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains one 305- by 65-foot
vehicle storage building and one 85- by 55-foot
vehicle maintenance building. Approximately
18 cargo trucks, 3 utility trucks, and 7 uniden-
tified vehicles were observed in May 1965.
Area J2 contains 4 support buildings. Six-
teen possible vehicles were observed in May
1965.
Driver-Training Area
Area M is a driver-training area containing
a figure-8.
Infantry or Combined-Arms Field-Training
Area or Courses
Area R is a combined-arms training area
containing numerous vehicle tracks and em-
placements and a probable storage building.
