This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center lP la.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Pechenga Army Barracks Kaakkiri Lake is
located approximately 6 kilometers (km)
southeast of Pechenga, in highly glaciated,
rocky and barren terrain (Figure 1).
The facility is partially fenced, covers
approximately 276 acres, and consists of an
administration/troop housing area with 2
administration/barracks buildings, 24 barracks,
14 support structures, and 17 dwellings; a
storage area with 25 warehouses and 23 support
buildings; an equipment storage/maintenance
area with 15 vehicle storage /maintenance build-
ings, 11 support structures, and a flat -trajectory
firing range with 2 possible moving-target
rails and 6 support buildings (Figures 2 and 3).

Comparative analysis
reveals no apparent change in facilities and a
constant level of activity.
Railroad Service
The Pechenga-Murmansk rail line is
located 6 km west.
Road Service
Area E2 contains 5 general storage build-
ings and 7 support buildings.
Area E3 contains 4 general storage build-
ings and 7 support buildings.
Area E4 contains 10 general storage build-
ings and 6 support buildings.
A road connects the installation to Pechenga.
Aircraft Landing Strip
Pechenga airfield is located 18 km
southwest.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 contains 2 multistory adminis-
tration buildings/barracks, 24 barracks, and
8 support buildings.
Area D2 is a housing area containing
17 dwellings and 6 support buildings.
General Storage Areas
Area El contains 6 general storage build-
ings and 3 support buildings.
Equipment Storage/ Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains 3 vehicle storage/main-
tenance buildings and 2 support buildings.
Area J2 contains 12 vehicle storage/main-
tenance buildings and 9 support buildings.
Approximately 60 unidentified pieces of
equipment and vehicles were observed in Areas
J1 and J2 on - coverage.
Flat-Trajectory Firing Ranges
Area P is a flat-trajectory firing range
with 2 possible moving-target rails approxi-
mately 350 and 700 feet long. The possible
moving targets are approximately 700 yards
and 1000 yards from the firing line.
