This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center IPla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division..
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
,(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/

Dushanbe Army Barracks I
25X1 A I I is located in the
north-central part of Dushanbe at 38-35N
068-47E. A training area is located 26 kilo-
meters (km) south-southwest at 38-21N
068-38E (Figure 1).
The barracks area covers approximately
120 acres and contains 2 administration build-
ings, 2 probable barracks/administration build-
ings, 2 probable barracks, 16 barracks, 2 bar-
racks/quarters, 17 storage buildings, 12 stor-
age/support buildings, 19 vehicle equipment
sheds, 41 support buildings, and an athletic
field.
The training area covers approximately
610 acres and contains a probable vehicle park
with 2 probable vehicle sheds and 2 support
buildings, a probable tracked-vehicle driver-
training area, a wheeled-vehicle driver-train-
ing area, a tank/assault-gun firing range, an
APC firing range, a possible subcaliber firing
range, an unidentified firing range, and several
large craters (Figures 2, 3, and 4).

Area D3 contains 1 T-shaped multistory

and 9 support buildings.
General Storage Areas
Area E1 contains 6 storage buildings (1 con-

storage/support buildings, and 2 vehicle/equip-
ment sheds (200 by 40 feet and 200 by 40 feet
with a 40- by 40-foot extension).
Equipment Storage /Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains 4 vehicle /equipment sheds

(one 450 by 75 feet, two 420 by 30 feet, and one
450 by 30 feet) and 2 support buildings.
Area J2 contains 1.0 vehicle /equipment
sheds (200 by 70 feet, 200 by 50 feet, 320 by 45
feet, 300 by 30 feet, 120 by 50 feet with a 120-
by 40-foot extension, 300 by 40 feet, 170 by 70
feet, 170 by 40 feet, 180 by 30 feet, and 100 by
30 feet with a 30- by 20-foot leg), 1 admin-
istration building, 1 barracks, 3 storage build-
ings,, and 14 support buildings. Two vehicle/
equipment sheds were constructed between Q
Area J3 contains 3 vehicle/equipment sheds
(450 by 40 feet, 260 by 40 feet, and 200 by 65
feet).
Area J (not on sketch), located in the train-
ing area, is secured and contains 1 probable
vehicle park (235 by 140 feet), 2 probable ve-
hicle sheds (90 by 35 feet and 60 by 30 feet), and
2 support buildings.
Athletic Field
Area K is an athletic field.
Driver-Training Areas
Area M1 is a probable tracked-vehicle
driver-training area.

Area N is a 3,220-foot tank/assault-gun
firing range with two 1,980-foot lanes and
3 moving target runs.
Special Training Facilities
Area Si contains an APC firing range
with 12 moving target runs at a maximum
distance of 1,260 feet and 12 range support
buildings.
Area S2 contains a possible subcaliber
firing range with 2 moving target runs at a
maximum distance of 1,260 feet and 2 range
support buildings.
Area S3 contains an unidentified moving-
target firing range with 3 moving-target runs
at a maximum distance of 3,600 feet and 2
range support buildings.
