This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division..
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firingranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Mary Army Barracks, locai...ed on the south-
east edge of Mary (Figure 1), covers approx-
imately 225 acres and contains 5 probable bar-
racks, 11 administration buildings, 14 trans-
shipment storage buildings, 13 vehicle main-
tenance/storage buildings, 4 semi-buried stor-
age buildings, 31 storage/support buildings,
9 support buildings, 9 possible officer and de-
pendent housing buildings, 3 possible mess fa-
cilities, and 1 possible officers barracks. The
vehicle storage area probably services and
houses some of the tanks assigned to the
armored unit in Mary (Figures 2 and 3).
The area was covered by Imis-
sion in nd missions
between The
installation appears to be active, although little
or no tank activity was observed.
Comparative analysis of this area indicates
that since I 4 vehicle maintenance/
storage buildings and a number of support build-
ings have been added to the installation.
Railroad Service
The area is rail served and appears to
contain 7 trackside docks.
The barracks area is served by an improved
road and secondary roads.
Aircraft Landing Strip
Mary civil airfield is approximately 4 km
northwest.
Administration and Troop Housing Area
Area D contains 5 probable barracks, 2
administration buildings, 1 possible officers
barracks, 9 possible officers and dependents
housing buildings, 14 support/storage buildings,
and 3 possible mess facilities.
General Storage Area
Area E contains 14 transshipment storage
sheds, 7 administration-type buildings (2 U-
shaped), 17 support/storage buildings, 4 stor-

age buildings, and 4 semi-buried storage build-
ings (possible ammunition storage).
Other Buildings
There are a number of small buildings and
sheds throughout the complex.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J contains 13 vehicle maintenance/
storage buildings (one 140 by 40 feet, one 280
by 40 feet, two 345 by 35 feet, one 330 by 35
feet, four 250 by 35 feet, one 310 by 40 feet
and three 310 by 35 feet), 2 administration build-
ings, and 9 support buildings. There were
approximately 25 unidentified vehicles and 5
possible tanks parked in open areas on
---IDhotography.
Athletic Field
Area K contains a parade field and probable
volleyball courts.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is a 76- by 6-meter small-arms
firing, range.

area.

approximately 10 km southwest of the army
barracks area.

approximately 10 km southwest of the army
barracks area.
