PREFACE
This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division,.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
~L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

A military barracks is located on the
southeast edge of Nebit Dag (Figure 1).
The barracks area encompasses approxi-
mately 160 acres and contains an adminis-
tration building, a probable administration build-
ing, 11 barracks, 35 officers /dependents quar-
ters, 3 storage buildings, 9 vehicle mainten-
ance/storage buildings, 4 possible repair shops,
51 support buildings, and 7 guard shacks (Figures
2 and 3).
A training area located 8 km east contains
2 tank/assault-gun firing ranges, a flat-tra-
jectory firing range, a tracked-vehicle driving
area, and an area containing 20 possible vehicle
revetments (Figure 4).

The Krasnovodsk-Kazandzhik rail line is
located 1 km southwest of the barracks area.
One probably oiled secondary road and
several trails serve the installation.

Nebit Dag Airfield is located 3.5 km south-
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area
Area J contains six 400- by 55-foot vehicle
maintenance /storage buildings, a 325- by 55-
foot vehicle maintenance/storage building, two
115- by 55-foot vehicle maintenance /storage
buildings, 4 possible repair shops, 9 support
buildings, 6 guard shacks, a 400- by 55-foot
vehicle park walled on 3 sides and divided into
4 bays separated by walls, a 340- by 250-foot
vehicle park walled on 4 sides, and a 500- by
210-foot vehicle park walled on 2 sides.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 contains 35 probably dependents
or officers quarters (occupied winter and sum-
mer), and 11 support buildings.
Area D2 contains 11 barracks (occupied
winter and summer), an I-shaped administration
building with a probable messhall attached, a
probable multistory administration building, 27
support buildings, and a guard shack.
General Storage Areas
Area E contains 3 general storage buildings
and 4 support buildings.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is a 520- by 90-foot small-arms
firing range which appears to be little used.
Driver-Training Area
Area M is a tracked-vehicle driver-training
area with 1 probable observation building.
Tank/Assault-Gun Firing Ranges
Area Ni is a 4,600-foot tank/assault-gun
firing range with three 3,500-foot lanes, 2
targets, 4 rangehead buildings, and 4 possible
tents or shacks.

firing range with three 4,500-foot lanes, 2 trenches, foxholes, and tracks.
