CHINA
Evidence of Additional SAWRF Construction
Unusual construction activity, which IAS considers may be the start
of two SAWRF's, has been newly identified near Tientsin, China.
One area of activity is 13 nautical miles (nm) east of Tientsin and
slightly north of the rail line that connects Tientsin with the port of 25X1 D
Tangku. Initial construction was begun in By 1: 1 25X1 D
0 a new rail spur had been built to the site and construction was well
under way (see Figure la).
The second area of construction is 8 nm south of Tientsin and 15 nm
west-southwest of the first area. Initial construction at the site was
observed on photography of but no activity was visible on 25X1 D
late coverage. n photography of the configuration
of the ou er perimeter was well defined, and construction was supported by a
new rail spur (see Figure Ib).
25X1 D
The pace of construction at both new areas differs from that seen at
the SAWRF's identified previously. No corridor system has yet been begun
I lafter the start of construction, whereas corridors have been
about the first thing to appear at the other locations. Because both con-
struction sites are in very low, wet terrain, however, there may be an
intent to elevate the foundations prior to construction of the corridor
systems.
For the locations of these construction projects and the six SAWRF's
previously built in the North China Plain see Figure 2.
