In response to the above referenced requirement, a search was made of the area within a radius of 30 nautical miles (nm) of the geographic coordinates 38-19N 101-57E to locate a metallurgical complex other than the complex at Yung-Chang, China (38-29-30N 102-12-OOE). 2. The following metallurgical industries were found within the search area: a. Iron Plant (38-22-OON 102-04-40E): consists of ten small probable blast furnaces which are abandoned and. are being dismantled, a conveyor system, one water tower, and two probable ore preparation buildings. The plant is located. just north of the main rail line and on the same rail spur leading to Yung-Chang Thermal Powerplant 25X1A b. Iron Plant (38-21-05N 102-03-4OE): consists of two probable blast furnaces, a conveyor system, ore storage bins, two cooling ponds under construction, and eight small support buildings. The plant does not appear operational and construction continues in the transloading areas.. A housing area containing 18 barracks and two support buildings is located. immediately to the northwest. The plant is located on a rail spur south of the main rail line and opposite the rail spur leading to Yung-Chang Mining and Ore Processing Complex. The rail spur terminates at a mining area approximately 0.8 nm southeast of the iron plant. No associated electronics or communications equipment could be identified 9 nd. at e i i-1 er - a Declass Review by NIMA / DoD 25X1 j GROUP I Excluded from automatic downgrading and TOP SECRET dec~V ~ P6PIKelease 2003/12/19: CIA-RD 25X1 Approved For ReI4 ase 2003/I2/T e 78TO4759PI009100010131-2 25X1 SUBJECT: Non-Ferrous Metals Complex, China 3.
