This memorandum is in response to your requirement dated 11 June 1970 requesting a 3-nm-radius search around 53 defensive missile and electronics sites for R-400 microwave communications. 2. The following three sites contained R-400 microwave communications: a) HAAPSALU SAM SITE A24-3 had a single dish R-400 microwave tower I _J NW of the guidance area (attachment 1). A control building was cable connected to the guidance area. Mast height was however, the assemblage on top of the mast could not be confirmed as R-400. 3. Areas of approximately 3 nm around the following installations were searched for microwave communications on high-resolution photography with negative results: GROUP I Excluded from automatic downgrading and declassification TOP SECRET DECLAS pRPEVIEWbvMIeeasI+VIA/eD993/12/19: CIA-RDP78T04759A009700010013-7 rove o b) TALLINN SAM S - had a single dish R-400 microwave tower SW of the guidance area (attachment 2). One van truck was parked on a hardstand adjacent to the mast. A cable scar led north from the hardstand, probably to the guidance area. 25X1A 25X1A 25X1A 25X1 Approved For Rele 2c. / 9 : CIA-RDP78T0 759AO09700010013-7 30 July 1970 25X1 25X1 25X1 D Ilaapsalu SAM Site A26-2 Iiaapsalu SAM Site C21-2 Kuressaare SAM Complex B32-5 Kuressaare SAM Site A32-2 Kuressaare SAM Site B07-2 Kuressaare SAM Site B32-3 Kuressaare SAM Support Facility Parnu SAM Site A33-3 Parnu TALL KING Air Warning Radar Facility Rakvere MRB~M Complex SAM Site B35-2 Saaremaa Air Warning Radar Facility Tallinn SAM Complex B28-S Tallinn SAM Site A02-2 Tallinn SAM Site A22-3 Tallinn SAM Site A30-2 Tallinn SAM Site A30-3 Tallinn SAM Site B27-2 Tallinn SAM Site C09-2 Tallinn SAM Site D08-2 Tallinn ADZ Hq Tallinn SAM Support Facility Tallinn/Lasnamae TK-AW Radar Fac Search Nomme IM Communications Facility Saku IIF Communications Facility West Tapa SAM Complex A32-5 Tapa SAM Site A21-2 Tapa SAM Support Facility Leningrad/Tapa TALL KING-AW Radar Facility Tapa VHF Communications Facility 2 Tapa VHF Communications Facility 1 Tapa IIF Communications Facility N Nineteen installations were not covered by high-resolution photography. 25X1 D 25X1 Approved For Release 2003/12/19: CIA-RDP78TO4759AO09700010013-7 25X1 `Approved For Relq e t /19 : CIA-RDP78T04 59AO09700010013-7 30 July 1970 SUTBJ ECT: New S MI Communications 5. questions concerning this project may he directed to the imagery 25X1 D analyst, This project is considered to he complete. 25X1 Attachments: a/s 25X1 25X1 25X1 D 25X1 25X1 Approved For Release 2003/12/19 : CIA-RDP78TO4759AO09700010013-7 25X1 Approved For Release 2003/12/19 : CIA-RDP78TO4759AO09700010013-7 Approved For Release 2003/12/19 : CIA-RDP78TO4759AO09700010013-7 Approved For Relea ~e 2003/127QD :5C 78T 4759A0097000100 3-7 25X1 11 August 1970 MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, P04/SPO, NSA ATTENTION SUBJECT . Computed Geographic Coordinates of Selected SA-5 Associated Air Warning Radar Facilities, and General Launch Orientations of Selected SA-5 Complexes REFERENCE NSA/SOC/R-06-71 (NPIC Project 250834) 1. The information concerning exact geographic coordinates of selected SA-5 air warning radar facilities is provided in attachment 1. Coordinates were requested for air warning radar facilities at 18 deployed SA-5 launch complexes, two SA-5 training facilities (at Leningrad), and the Gorkiy-Sormovo Assembly and Test Area. An air warning facility is associated with only seven of the requested 18 complexes, and with only one of the Leningrad SA-5 training facilities. No AW facility is associated with the Gorkiy-Sormovo Assembly and Test Area. 2. The information concerning general launch orientations is provided in attachment 2. Orientations were requested for 20 SA-5 launch complexes, three SA-5 training facilities, the Gorkiy-Sormovo Assembly and Test Area, and the Kovylkino SAAB Depot. Orientations are provided only for the 20 SA-5 launch complexes, as they are the only requested installations which are considered to have a launching capability. Each of the three SA-5 training facilities has six or less launch positions and only one SQUARE PAIR radar, arranged in a training configuration, rather than a deployed launch site configuration. The Gorkiy-Sormovo Assembly and Test Area has no launch capability, as it contains only SA-5 and SA-2 tracking and guidance radars. The Kovylkino SAM Depot contains SA-5 SQUARE PAIR radars and launchers but functions as an equipment checkout facility. SQUARE PAIR radar azimuths at Kovylkino were provided to NSA under a previous NPIC memorandum, 25X1 12 March 1970.
