SELECTED SOVIET MILITARY STORAGE AREAS, USSR
Analysis of recently obtained photography has revealed large
numbers of vehicles and equipment stored at several ordnance and ammunition
depots. Six of these installations have been selected for the report in
an attempt to identify similarities between the installations.
They are Bryansk Ordnance Depot Bryansk II, located in the Moscow Military
District; Kegichevka Ordnance Depot Territorium, located in the Kiyev Military
District; an ordnance depot and machine plant in Tbilisi, located in the
Transcaucasus Military District; Omsk Ordnance and Ammunition Depot PUG, located
in the Siberian Military District; Staraya Kuka Ammunition Depot SW 25
and Khabarosk Ordnance Depot Krasnaya Reckha 154, located in the ar East 25
Military District.
All but the Tbilisi installation were at least double secured by fences
with fire breaks and guard towers located between the fences. Internal
security was present in some of the installations but lacking in others. All
depots were rail served and contained a large number of storage buildings capable
of storing vehicles or equipment. Field artillery pieces were observed in all
installations but Kegichevka. Most of the equipment observed on 25
photography was not present on earlier coverage indicating either 25
a change in function of the installation to include the storage of vehicles and
equipment or an increase of the quantity of material beyond that which can be
housed.
The depots analyzed in this report are but a few that probably exist in
the Soviet Union. Large numbers of pieces of equipment are also observed at
depots in Kamenets.Podolskiy and Nezhin but quality of the photography precludes
identification.
All measurements have been made by the CIA/IAD analyst. They should not be
construed as being mensuration data compiled by the NPIC Technical Intelligence
Division.

ORDNANCE DEPOT AND MACHINE PLANT-TBILISI
41 42N-o44 49E
The ordnance depot and machine plant are located on the NE side of the
Kura River in the center of Tbilisi.
There are 2 support areas. One is located in the SE corner of the
installation and one in the NE corner.
The area is served by a siding from the main rail line which passes
through the city and by the local street network.
The installation appears to be secured by a single fence although there
is much internal security. The machine plant is separately secured from
the ordnance depot. There are 6 separately secured areas within the
perimeter fence of the depot. The internal security is primarily in
the form of walls.

The machine plant is reportedly a producer of wine-making
equipment. However, 8 probable FA pieces are observed in the
plant area indicating the installation also has a probable
ordnance function. The munitions area is located at the extreme
north end of the installation with the larger part of the facility
serving as an ordnance depot. It appears that many of the buildings
now have a function other than for what they were originally intended.
Most of the possible SCUD equipment is separately secured within the
installation.
