The observatory has facilities for optical and radioastronomical observations. Figures 3 through 7 show the chronological development of this installation, and Figures 8 and 9 are a perspective sketch and a line drawing respectively based on photography F- -1 The following annotations are keyed to Figure 9. 1-4 Probable radio telescope support buildings 5-10 Antenna system with coupling buildings 11 Control building 12-13 Instrumentation buildings 14 Instrumentation support building 15 Small optical telescope 16-21 Instrumentation buildings 22 Support building 23-24 Large optical telescopes 25-30 Support buildings 31 Sentry post The construction of this observatory started prior to Photography at that time showed the two large buildings in the southeastern section of the installation to be under construction. Analysis of coverage indicated that construction in the eastern section of the installation 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 had progressed at a rapid rate. By my one of these still 25X1 remained incomplete. The configuration of the antenna system is not characteristic of a communication facility nor of previously observed radiotelescopes. The associated optical facilities would indicate that it is for astronomical purposes. Possibly the antenna system is of a new design or configuration, Approved For Release 2"f13 1~- DP78T0 161AO013000 KT. 25X1 25X1 Approv d For Release 2$IORE: RDP78T ?I6?A001300010023 ;0 or it is still under construction and the towers may possibly be for the support of a non-rigid type, suspended parobolic antenna to be installed in the future. All measurements have been made by the NPIC Technical Intelligence Division and are considered to be accurate within + 5 feet for the buildings and + 10 feet for the heights. 25X1 -2- 25X1 Approved For Release, ,QQ3/~3/,2k- RD~P7`=T05161AO013 0010023-0 25X1: Approv* TOP SECRET 25X1 25X1 25X1 I General Locator Map, USSR (Unclassified) ACIC, U.S. Air Target Chart, Series 200, Sheet 0336-7HL, 2nd Edition, May 1964, Scale 1:200,000 C-S17-8+,195 CIA/IAS PROJECT 30603-7 u -3- TOP SECRET Approved For Release 2003/03/28 : CIA1?^o6161A001300q 25X1 25X1 25X1 DUSHAMBE ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY DUSHAMBE, USSR si 38 29N 68 41E Approved r Release 20TQP3& RECTA-RDI78T05161.A001300010023 0 DUSHAMME ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY "''? .
