NEWLY IDENTIFIED THERMAL POWERPLANTS IN
PEKING MILITARY REGION, CHINA
ABSTRACT
1. This report is a summary of 42 thermal powerplants newly identified in Peking
Military Region (Inner Mongolia, Shansi, and Hopeh Provinces) on photography of
January, February, and July 1972. The report contains text, a table, a map, and a
photograph.
INTRODUCTION
2. With the addition of these 42 newly identified thermal powerplants (Figure 1),
the number in Peking Military Region increased to 59. Three of the newly observed plants
were under construction. Approximately 80 percent of the military region was observed on
cloud-free photography.
BASIC DESCRIPTION
3. The 42 newly identified thermal powerplants use coal as the principal fuel. Like
most of the previously identified thermal powerplants they have integral boiler houses and
generator halls (Figure 2), The new powerplants range in size from small to medium and in
many cases, they are either next to a rail line or near a water source,
4. Table '1 (keyed to Figure 1) summarizes the 42 plants and includes the name, BE
number, coordinates, status, and physical features of each plant.
