1. Hamah Ammunition Storage Facility was occupied when first observed in
June/July 1967. Since then the facility has undergone major expansion which has increased
its total storage capacity at least twofold and the function of the facility has broadened to
include the storage of crated aircraft. The increased storage is being accomplished by the
construction of large earth-covered buildings of two general types.
2. This report provides a detailed description derived from photographic coverage
through The individual components of the facility are described 25X1
significant features are annotated on accompanying photographs.
INTRODUCTION
3. Hamah Ammunition Storage Facility is approximately 10 nautical miles (nm)
southeast of Hamah and approximately 20 nm northeast of Hims, Syria (Figure 1).
4. The purpose of this report is to describe the facility and to show where major
additions have been made to broaden the function of the facility.
BASIC DESCRIPTION
5. Hamah Ammunition Storage Facility is served by an all-weather road that runs
from the major Hims/Hamah highway. Service roads within the facility are all weather and
are constructed with wide-radius turns.
6. The facility is divided into two major areas (area A and area B, Figure 2). Both
areas are separately fenced and both areas have two new types of storage buildings, which
for the purpose of this report are designated type A and type B (Figure 3).

7. A type A storage building is approximately it is 25X1
a drive-in building with about 18 individual partitions. This type building probably will be
earth covered.
8. A type B storage building is approximatel . It is a
drive-in building with about eight individual partitions. This type of building probably will
be earth covered also.
9. Area A (Figure 4) has been constructed since the facility was first identified and
consists of an open storage/administration and maintenance section (annotation 1), and a
storage section under construction (annotation 2). Three type A and six type B storage
buildings are in this area.
10. Area B (Figure 5) is the area of the original target and in 1967 included only the
areas outlined by annotations 1 and 3, with no storage in annotation 2. The facilities in
annotation 4 and the remaining area are new since 1967.
11. Area B was initially used as an ammunition storage area (annotation 1). The
function has now been broadened to include the storage of aircraft shipping crates
(annotations 2 and 3) and a probable weapons calibration range (annotation 4). One type A
and five type B storage buildings were under construction in this area in October 1972.
