1. This report reviews the major ground forces developments
in Honan Province observed on
December 1972 0 The
photographs, and two tables.

2. Almost total coverage and generally clear photography from
permitted a detailed search of Honan Province. A
number of major developments were noted, 12 ground forces installa-
tions were newly identified (Figure 1, Table 1), and a nearly

The pontons were on carriers.
Thirty-four dummy tanks were observed in
the training area.
Ten of the AAA pieces were in two nearby
villages.
At least 15 dummy tanks were scattered
throughout the training area.

complete summary of weapons and equipment was determin_d by searching
both known targets as well as the entire province for dispersed
weapons (see Table 2).
BASIC DESCRIPTION
3? Elements of three separate river-cross'ng units were newly
identified in October 1972. Two pontons on carriers and 13 possible
pontons on carriers were at Shang--chiu-hsien Army Barracks Southwest
AL 3. Eighteen probable pontons on carriers were identified at
Hsin-yang Infantry School Barracks and Vehicle Maintenance Facility.
Eight TPP/TMP pontons on carriers were at Hsin-hsi.an? Army Barracks
North (Figure 2).
. Six tanks on flatcars were identified on a southbound
train, 4 nautical miles south of Ming-chiang, at 32-23-45N llb-02-5OE
(Figure 3).
5. Dummy tanks constructed of earth were observed in three
armor training areas. Fifteen dummy tanks were identified in Pi-yang
Armor Training Area. Thirty-four were in Lin-hsien Armor Training
Area, and three were in Ku-hsien Tank Training Area.
