3 of the 18 newly constructed barracks areas in Shansi Province. Since June of 1971
, there have been numerous sightings of weapons dispersal areas throughout the province.
In many areas the weapons were parked in villages of no apparent military significance.* With the
construction of these barracks areas in the province, there has been a gradual movement of equipment
and weapons into these new areas. The barracks construction activity in the province has not, however,
completely phased out the weapons dispersal areas.
3. Twelve of the 18 newly constructed barracks areas were at least regimental in size. Sixteen
of the new barracks were occupied, although construction may not have been completed.
4. This report contains a table which provides descriptions of the newly constructed and
expanded barracks areas, an annotated map, and two photographs.
