This report locates and delineates the major elements of the Ssu-ping Armor Division, Shenyang Military Region (MR) China, and contains text, a location map, a table, an a photograph. The purpose o this report is to combine point targets into target areas to provide more meaningful analysis and reporting. INTRODUCTION 2. The Ssu-ping Armor Division is one of two armor divisions identified in the Shenyang MR. It is approximately 500 nautical miles (nm) south of the China/USSR border and is strategically placed in the center of the main access corridor into Manchuria. The division consists of three armor regiments, an artillery/AAA regiment, a possible mechanized infantry battalion, and a headquarters area. Two associated ammunition depots in the immediate vicinity are included in this report. BASIC DESCRIPTION 3. Table 1 lists the units in the Ssu-ping Armor Division (plus the two ammunition depots) with their installation names, geographic coordinates, and BE numbers. The installations listed below are keyed to Figures 1 and 2. Table 1. This division headquarters area (Area A) contains within its boundaries a headquarters and barracks area, an armor maintenance and storage area, an artillery/AAA regiment area, a hospital area, and a general storage area. 5. The headquarters and barracks area consists of two adjoining headquarters buildings with an attached mess facility, an I-shaped administration building, ten barracks, a dispensary, a heating plant, seven wheeled-vehicle storage buildings, a tank subcaliber range, a small-arms range, and numerous animal pens. 6. The armor maintenance and storage area consists of two four-bay armor maintenance buildings, a small probable fabrication-type building, four maintenance/machine shops, two five-bay armor storage sheds, three large vehicle sheds, three small vehicle sheds, a U-shaped administration building, a heating plant, numerous small storage/support buildings, and a tank subcaliber range. A small ammunition storage area is immediately east and consists of eight small ammunition storage buildings. 7. The artillery/AAA regiment area consists of nine barracks, two administration buildings, two messhalls, 20 weapons/vehicle storage buildings, numerous small quarters/support buildings, and a small ammunition storage area containing five small storage buildings, 8. The hospital area consists of five multiwing buildings (one fence secured) and two storage buildings. 9. The general storage area is adjacent to the hospital area and consists of two parallel administration buildings connected by a covered walkway, 48 storage buildings (eight under construction), three vehicle sheds, 13 storage/support buildings, two vehicle maintenance buildings, and two buildings under construction (one E shaped). This armor regiment (Area B) is 7 nm south-southeast of the division headquarters and consists of a multistory headquarters/administration building, two small administration buildings, 46 barracks, eight messhalls, two auditoriums, six vehicle sheds, -a heating plant, six support buildings, and a tracked-vehicle driver-training course. Ssu-ping Army Barracks AL 7 11. This armor regiment (Area C) is 13 nm southeast of the division headquarters and consists of an administration building, 22 barracks, five messhalls, an auditorium, 31 storage/support buildings, and an H-shaped dispensary. A mechanized infantry battalion may also be present at this facility. Ssu-ping Army Barracks East AL 5 12. This armor regiment (Area D) is 14 nm east-southeast of the division headquarters and consists of an administration building, 24 barracks, three messhalls, an auditorium, 85 vehicle sheds, a heating plant, 34 storage/support buildings, 56 hardened tank revetments dispersed throughout the area, a large tracked-vehicle driver-training course, and a tank firing run. Ssu-ping Ammunition Depot SE 13. This triple-fence-secured ammunition depot (Area E) is 10 nm southeast of the division headquarters area and consists of 52 revetted ammunition storage buildings, a barracks, a messhall a vehicle shed, a heating plant, and 14 support buildings. A rail-to-road transshipment point containing one building is southeast of the depot. Ssu-ping Ammunition Depot Lung-wang-tun 14. This rail-served, fence-secured ammunition depot (Area F) is 9 nm southeast of the division headquarters and consists of 50 earth-covered bunkers, 59 storage buildings (36 revetted), three barracks/ administration buildings, a messhall, a heating plant, a vehicle shed, 30 support buildings, and a rail-to-road transshipment point containing three buildings.
