NEW-CLASS PROBABLE GUIDED MISSILE GUNBOAT
SHANG-HAI, CHINA
1. A new-class probable guided missile gunboat (P'GMG) armed with six probable cruise missile
launchers was recently identified at Shang-hai (Figure 1). The vessel, designated HOLI-Class PGMG
(Object Target Number 67-2301-00), was at Shang-hai Naval Base and Shipyard Hu-tung E
31-16-53N 121-33-58E) I Figure
); at Shang-hai Naval Base Wu-sun 31-23-07N 121-30-02E) on ground photography
and at Heng-sha Naval Facility 31-22-30N
121-47-40E)
approximate dimensions of the launcher housings
2. The overall length of the vessel with a maximum beam ~ (Figure
4). Its hull resembles that of a HAIKOU or SHANGHAI II motor gunboat. Six fixed probable cruise
missile launcher housings, elevated approximately are mounted aft of midships. The
3. Conventional armament consists of two probable radar controlled twin 37mm guns, one
mounted forward and the other aft. A radome, positioned between the deckhouse
and the forward set of missile launchers, possibly houses an acquisition /fire control radar.
4. Gas turbine propulsion is suggested by the presence of three possible exhaust ports at
waterline in the stern and by a possible air intake on a pylon between the aft set of missile launchers.
5. Additional electronics equipment consisting of a navigation radar and two probable ESM
devices is on a platform supported by the pylon between the aft set of missile launchers.
