46TH INFANTRY DIVISION, 16TH ARMY
SHEN-YANG MILITARY REGION, CHINA
ABSTRACT
1. This report locates and delineates major elements of the 46th Infantry Division of
the 16th Army, Shen-yang Military Region (MR), China. The report is based on
and contains a location map, a table, and 25X1
five photographs. The purpose of this report is to combine point targets into target areas to
provide a basis for more meaningful reporting and analysis.
INTRODUCTION
2. The 46th Infantry Division, one of three infantry divisions subordinate to the 16th
Army, is 100 nautical miles (nm) northeast of Shen-yang and strategically placed along a
rail line. The division consists of a headquarters, three infantry regiments (one unlocated),
one artillery regiment, one tank/assault gun regiment, and one river-crossing battalion
(Figure 1).
BASIC DESCRIPTION
3. The table inset on Figure 1 lists the units subordinate to the 46th Infantry Divi-
sion, their installation names, BE numbers, geographic coordinates, and COMIREX
numbers. The installations are shown in Figures 2 through 6.
Liao-yuan Headquarters Infantry Division and Barracks East
AL 1 (Figure 2)
4. This division headquarters (area A), on the southeastern edge of Liao-yuan, con-
sists of one administration building with an attached auditorium, 26 barracks, four
messhalls, one large multiwing hospital, one multistory administration building/hospital,
one dispensary, three furnace buildings, one laundry, two vehicle maintenance buildings,
four vehicle storage buildings, three ammunition storage buildings, one bunker, 36 support
buildings, and a small-arms firing range.
Liao-yuan Army Barracks South AL 3 (Figure 3)
5. This infantry regiment (area B), 3 nm south of the division headquarters, consists
of one administration building with an attached auditorium, 26 barracks, two probable
quarters, one messhall, one furnace building, one dispensary, one five-bay vehicle storage
building, six vehicle/equipment storage buildings, three ammunition storage buildings, two
bunkered storage buildings, 38 storage/support buildings, one small-arms firing range (not
shown), one troop obstacle course, and three grenade throwing ranges.
Tung-feng Army Barracks North AL 1 (Figure 4)
6. This infantry regiment (area C), 21 nm southeast of the division headquarters,
consists of one administration building with an attached auditorium, 26 barracks, one
messhall, one furnace building, one probable dispensary, four ammunition storage
buildings, two semiburied storage buildings, 31 storage/support buildings, one obstacle
training course, and one observation tower.
Wei-ching Army Barracks South AL 1 (Figure 5)
7. This artillery regiment and river-crossing battalion (area D), 10 nm southeast of
the division headquarters, consist of four separate battalion-sized areas, an administration
area, and a vehicle maintenance and storage area. The facility contains a total of one ad-
ministration building, one auditorium, 18 barracks, two quarters, five messhalls, one fur-
nace building, one vehicle maintenance building, 11 vehicle/equipment storage buildings,
and 13 storage/support buildings.

Liao-yuan Army Barracks Northeast AL 2 (Figure 6)
8. This tank/assault gun regiment (area E), 3.5 nm northeast of the division head-
quarters, consists of one administration building, one auditorium, 26 barracks, five
messhalls, five quarters, one furnace building, one vehicle maintenance building, five
tracked-vehicle storage buildings, one vehicle storage building, six ammunition storage
buildings, ten storage/support buildings, 11 support buildings, one observation tower, and
one tracked- and wheeled-vehicle driver training course.
