(TSR) Analysis of the SS-N-8 transporter (Figure 1) at Petropavlovsk Kamchatka Naval Missile Storage , USSR, and the SS-NX-18 SLBM transporter (Figure 2) and empty trailer chassis (Figure 3) at Nenoksa Naval Missile Test Center USSR, in- dicates that these two transporters use a common chassis. This chassis is a three-axle, gooseneck trailer. The SS-N-8 and SS-NX-18 missiles are carried on the chassis in canisters that are dis- tinguishable from one another by their length (Figure 4). The SS-N-8 canister is 14.0 meters long and the SS-NX-18 canister The identification of the transporter as an SS-N-8 or SS-NX-18 transporter, therefore, depends upon which canister the chassis carries. 2. (TSR) The SS-NX-17 SLBM is also believed to be carried on a transporter using this same chassis. The SS-NX-17 and SS-NX-18 were tested concurrently at Nenoksa from May 1975 to December 1976. During this timeframe, the only ground support equipment seen at Nenoksa was a probable SS-NX-17 missile dolly and the SS-NX-18 transporter. The absence of any other ground support equipment supports the conclusion that the chassis for all three systems are the same. :3. (TSR) It is not unusual for the Soviets to use a common transporter for several different naval missile systems. Photographic evidence shows that the SS-N-3, SS-N-9, SS-N-12, and probably the SS-N-7 all use the same trailer.
