The Semipalatinsk Airfield is located about four miles north- The most obvious feature present is a large cement plant in the early stages of construction. What appear to be maintenance shops are present, as are extensive storage facilities, both open and covered. A large housing area, comprised of both multiple and single family buildings. is in the final stages of completion. The entire area is well served by road and rail facilities. No power lines can be seen entering the area, but the Heat and Power Plant TETS (see 1TrA/B-36/58 is the only known power plant in Semipalatinsk. Major components of the area are identified on the following photograph and line drawing and described in the key to annotations. Cement plant, under construction within walled area approximately 1,650 by 1,000 feet. Will be rail served. See page 5 for details. 2. Possible maintenance area, 900 by 425 feet, fenced and containing five buildings each about 75 by 30 feet. 3. Possible prefabricated concrete slab curing area, 2,000 by 575 feet, rail served and containing 20 buildings, each 260 by 55 feet. 4. Housing area consisting of both apartment-type buildings and family- type dwellings. 5. Storage area, irregularly-shaped, covering approximately 3,160,000 square feet. It is fenced, rail served, and contains 20 miscellaneous buildings ranging in size from 250 by 45 feet to 60 by 30 feet. 6. Open storage area, 4,200 by 800 feet. It is fenced and served by eight rail spurs. 7. Sand and gravel storage area. 8. Construction camp. It occupies a fenced area 2,000 by 700 feet, and facilities include open and roofed storage, a batch plant, and a probable motor pool. Eight miscellaneous buildings average 150 by 50 feet in size. The area is rail served. 9. Possible supply depot and/or maintenance facility, 1,100 by 850 feet. It is fenced, rail served, and contains one shop-type building 150 by 85 feet and eight storage-type buildings 150 by 50 feet.
