EIGHT RAILROAD STATIONS, YARDS, AND SHOPS
ON THE SVOBODNYY/KHABAROVSK SECTION
OF THE TRANS-SIBERIAN RAILROAD

This memorandum deals with rail facilities at eight localities
between Svobodnyy and Khabarovsk on the double-tracked Trans-Siberian
Railroad, as they appear on photography. From west to
east they are Zavitaya, Bureya, Arkhara, Obluchye, Izvestkovyy, Birakan,
Bira, and Birobidzhan. Analysis of rail facilities at Svobodnyy, Kubyshevka-
Vostochnaya, and -Khabarovsk have been made previously in JM-14-58,
JM-16-58, and JM-13-58, respectively, and rail traffic on this section
of the road is covered in JM-12-58,
Izvestkovyy and Birobidzhan are junction points for major branch
lines leaving this section of the Trans-Siberian, the line from Izvestkovyy
running north to Urgal, and the one from Birobidzhan running south to
Leniskoye on the Manchurian border.
An annotated photograph of each facility with descriptions of major
features completes this memorandum.

REQUIREMENT: This Joinr Photographic Intelligence Memorandum
presents an analysis of the railroad yards and facilities at eight
localities on the Svobodnyy/Khabarovsk section of the Trans-Siberian
Railroad. It has been prepared by CIA and Army and is intended to
satisfy Army requirements as specified in SRI 35-1-58 and CIA
requirements as specified in RR/HTA/E/R-45/58.
