The refinery proper occupies an area of approximately 185 acres. Buildings and equipment occupy approximately 50-60,70 of this area. Collateral .reports indicate that the refinery receives the major portion of its crude oil supply from the Sakhalin Island oilfields via pipeline to Komsomolsk, thence by river tankers to Khabarovsk. Additional crude oil is also supplied by rail tank cars from the Ural-Volga area. Approximately 87 storage tanks ranging in diameter from 10 to 114 feet are located within the refinery area. The total storage capacity of these tanks is estimated to be approximately 1,401,500 barrels. Khabarovsk Petroleum Storage , located just southwest of the refinery, contains approximately 25 vertical and 5 horizontal tanks with an estimated capacity of 105,025 barrels. This storage area is connected by pipeline to the refinery and the petroleum pier. An asphalt plant is located in the north part of the refinery area while the primary and secondary distillation units are located in the southern part -of the refinery. Although heavy shadows and the scale of photography preclude an exact determination of distillation processes and equipment, the major identifiable components of this refinery are shown on the accompanying photograph and. line drawing and described in the key to annotations. *The other major petroleum refinery is located at Komsomolsk and re- ported in CIA, PIC R-4 5y dated June 59.
