PLC/JB-?74/60 4 Communications Installation DATE : 20 April 1960 LOCATION . West Shore of Lake Balkhash LAT . 45?53'N Approx. WAC . 245 LONG : `'3?30'E Approx. PHOTO DATA: 25X1D REMARKS: This brief, which identifies an instrumentation and radio communi- cations installation located at approximately 45?53'N/73a30'E on the western shore of L e Balkhash;_ res-ults from a preliminary photographic analysis. The instal Lion consists of a support area, an instrumentation facility, an interferometer-type site, and a rhombic cornmunications station. The support area is fenced and contains 9 barracks-type buildings and 17 miscellaneous buildings. The instrumentation facility consists of a fenced circular pad with three vehicles in the center. ` Adjacent to the pad is an area containing four small buildings, five vehicles, and several high-frequency rhombic antennas oriented roughly east-?:h est. The interferometer-type site is enclosed by a circular fencq and has centered within it a plus figure with at least four domes position4d at the ends of the plus. A cable scar runs from a shed near the center of the plus to a point off the usable portion of the photography. The communications station has at least seven single rhombics for daytime 9pe-ration Each of two separate areas containing supporting facilities irjclLdes a control building, a generator building, and small supporting facilities. A cable scar leads from the.station to a road extending beyond the interferometer- type site . NOTE: Because of the poor quality of base maps of this area and the scattered cloud cover on the photography, it is emphasized that the geographic positioning of this installation is only approximate at this time.
