In addition, it gives a count of equipment found at several completed operational hexagon SAM sites, as well as the total count of hexagon SAM equipment identified to date from aerial photography of the Soviet Bloc. The hexagon SAM equipment identified at the SAM Facilities within the Kapustin Yar-Vladimirovka Missile Test Center, USSR, consists of Fruit Set guidance radars, missile launchers, and miscellaneous vehicles, including vans, trucks, prime movers, and utility vehicles. This equipment is dispersed among the dry-firing areas, the transloading area, and the marshaling area. The total amount of hexagon SAM equipment (excluding equipment at the R & D area) associated with troop training within the SAM Facilities is approximately as follows: 30 Fruit Set radars 169 launchers 540 vehicles The above totals are distributed as follows among the three areas mentioned: Dry-Firing Areas 7 (2 possible) Fruit Set radars Approved For Release 2001/03/03 : CIA-RDP78T05439A000100260070-6 21 launchers 49 vehicles Transloadin.g Area 12 launchers ;'entrain-ed) 6 vehicles ; ertrain_ed) 36 vehicles Marshaling Area 23 (approximate) Fruit Set radars 136 (approximate) launchers 449 (approximate) vehicles PIC /JB- 1 /60 Elements of approximately 30 i-exagon SAM batteries have been identified within the marshaling area. These batteries evidently arrive and depart periodically. This is substantiated by the presence of entrained and detrained equipment in the transloa.dir-_g area., which is directly associated with the mar- shaling area. % The.scale, obliquity, and shadow distlrtion of the photography covering the marshaling area. preclude an exact count of equipment, resulting in approximate totals for this area. The following pieces of equipment .have been identified from aerial photo- graphy at several completed operational hexagon SAM sites within the Soviet Bloc. 6 launchers with detachable bogie wheels 6 launcher prime movers 7 missile transporters (trailer plus prime mover) 7 missiles (total capacity of 12, including 6 in hold status) 1 Fruit Set radar 6 guidance vans 3 guidance generator vans 1 guidance support van 1 Spoon R$st radar 1 Spoon Rest generator trailer 1 IFF radar (probably Score Board) 1 communications van 1 Mercury Grass antenna 3 van-type trailers (possibly maintenance) In the Soviet Bloc, a total of 46 hexagon-type SAM sites, 10 hexagon SAM support facilities, and 6 antiaircraft garrisons (containing transporters) have been identified from all types of photography to date. The total count of pieces of all hexagon SAM equipment identified at all these installations together is as follows: .
