1. This memorandum is in answer to a request for a detailed
examination of the area within a 20-nautical-mile radius of Baykonur
(47-50N 66-03E) in Soviet Kazakhstan for evidence of an ICBM/space
vehicle Launch facility- According to Soviet open-source literature,
Baykonur was the launch point for spaceships Vostok I-and II.

indicate a capability for Soviet ICBM or space vehicle launchings from
other than the known launch points at Tyura Tam Missile Test Center.
