Ush-Tobe (45-16N 77-58E), a major agricultural center, is
located 140 nm NE of Alma-Ata on the single-track raili~bad (Route 480)
leading north toward Semipalatinsk. As shown on the accompanying line
drawing, the relatively minor rail facilities include: A rail yard, 4, 200
feet long, six tracks wide; four-stall locomotive and car repair shop,
105 by 70 feet, with adjoining shop, 75 by 50 feet; service and storage
yard, 1, 800 feet long, six tracks wide; ice loading and storage facility,
500 by 160 feet, served by tv o tracks; coal storage yard, 1, 550 by 215
feet, served by three tracks; turning wye, effective length, 430 feet;
sanding facility, 470 by 160 feet, with two sanding towers, served by
three tracks; and a passenger station, 150 by 50 feet.
The principal industries in Ush-Tobe are related to agriculture
and include an agricultural machinery and repair plant, a large meat
processing combine, grain storage warehouses, and POL storage.
