Lo-yang ( E) is located on the.Lien-yun/Lan-thou rail-
road, approximately 570 miles west-northwest of Shanghai and 430 miles south-
west of Peiping. Since 1953, Lo-yang has reportedly undergone a large scale
industrial development and the population has tripled to an estimated 500, 000
people in 1958.

25X1 D tography for the first time A study of this photography indicates
considerable industrial expansion has taken place to the west of the old city.
Associated with this new industrial area are new rail spurs, a new marshalling
yard, and worker housing areas.
