Tsingtao (36?. 04'N/ 120?19'E) is located 340 miles north-northwest of
Shanghai. one the northeast coast of China where it serves as the de-el -water
terminus of the Shantung railroad. The city is an important industrial center
and commercial port with increasing significance as a submarine and naval
repair base. The population of Tsingtao was reported by
sources to be approximately 850, 000 in 1959.
