Cheng-hsien (34?46'N/l13?40'E) is located 400 miles southwest of Pei-
ping at the junction of the Peiping/Canon and the Lien-yun/Lan-chou railroads,
and has become an important industrial and communications center. . The
population of Cheng-hsien was reported by Chinese Communists to-be 770, 000
in 1958.
Cheng'-hsien was covered by good quality, large-scale aerial photography
on Extensive new railroad and industrial developments were
noted. Sevez',al large marshalling yards and rail spurs have been const--.iictod
north of the city while an industrial area and associated worker housing
occupies the expanded western and northern sections of the _c'ity. Cheng-hsien
Northeast Airfield has been expanded and improved.
