TYURA TAM MISSILE TEST CENTER, USSR
This report provides answers to specific
questions on Launch Complex D, Tyura Tam
Missile Test Center, contained in CIA joint
requirement OSI/R-240/62--ORR/RR-255/62.
It makes no attempt to present a comprehensive
description of Launch Complex D. A more
detailed study of this launch complex appears
in NPIC/R-30/63, Silo ICBM Launch Areas in the
USSR. 1/
The two launch areas a: Launch Complex D
(Dl and D2), although not in the same stage of
construction, appear as though they will be
identical in size and configuration when com-
pleted (Figure 1). The previously reported
objects at Dl and D2 are now referred to as silos.
The two silos at Dl measure 50 feet across
and are 200 feet apart from center to center.
Their sha a is still indistinct. As of
they extended approximately
10 feet above ground level. This extension above
ground may mean that backfilling has not yet
been Ampleted. Alternatively, it may mean
that scaffolding has been erected over the silos.
If so, the scaffolding would be used to lower
materials into the silos during the final phase of
construction.
The onl significant construction activity
at DI since has
been the all-weather surfacing of a triangular
portion of the entrance service road.
