The next available aerial pho- tography of this area is from which provided excellent detail and showed this unusual project in a late stage of con- struction. KEYHOLE subse- 25X1 C 25X1 C 25X1 D and, although the photography did not disclose details, it showed the extent of the depot. In - small-scale photography from am and from another KEY- HOLE mission covered the site, but again construction details could not be discerned. Camp Huckstep is a large military camp serving the Cairo area. 2/ It has housed a large number of Soviet troops, and there is visible evidence of Soviet vehicles and of weapons positions in the widespread training The new depot is connected by road to Camp Huckstep. The main road of the depot extends southward 4 nm from the east side of the camp to connect with the main Cairo- Al Ismailiyah highway (Figure 1). The depot is served by an elaborate high-standard black- topped road system. The loads average 20 feet in width and intersections have extremely long turning radii (90 feet) which would permit the use of very long vehicles, including the longest trailer trucks. Ditches, apparently for pipelines, are being excavated in the depot area. A main pipeline ditch from Camp Huckstep parallels the main road (Figure 2). It was only partially com- pleted in - Other pipeline ditches lead from each building in many building groups to centrally located excavations (see. inset, Fig- ure 2). These may be sewer or water drainage lines. It is possible that pipelines supply the warehouses with water for an evaporation sys- tem of air-conditioning and that drainage ditches serve to carry off excess water from this system. In - many of the buildings at the depot were in various stages of construction, some having only foundations in place. The buildings are closely spaced in groups of four to ten, but the building groups are widely spaced. TYPES OF BUILDINGS Six types of storage buildings appear throughout the depot. The types are des- ignated A through F in order of building size. Dimensions and drawings of the building types are shown in Figure 3. The Type A building 25X1 D is the largest (measuring -feet) and is the type most frequently seen at the depot. The Type B building is the least numerous. All of the buildings are of single-story, flat-roofed construction. Buildings of four types (A-D) are set on rows of foundation posts rather than on slabs or excavated foundations. Buildings of Types E and F are of shed size, but have deep foundations, and are identified as probable fuze NO FOREIGN DISSEM TOP SECRET CHESS RUFF NO FOREIGN DISSEM MILITARY STORAGE ; DEPOT " I_ _ 1 CYPRUS_ - SYRIA ti ISRAEL/ -.? `AlIsmailiyah; C I '~ Cairo" CAMP JORDAN. SIX BUILDING TYPES OBSERVED AT MILITARY STORAGE DEPOT. 0 storage houses. Four of the types (A,,C, D, and E) have ventilators. Two types (A and C) are of the same configu- ration and have unusual cutout sections in their roofs. The cutout sections may serve as air- intake ports for an evaporation system of air- conditioning. A warehouse with a cutout section has been seen elsewhere at only one location--a small, highly secured chemical plant near Ta- lien, China (this plant is annotated on the illus- tration appearing in NPIC/R-1390/63, 3/). This warehouse (measuring 115 by^feet) is some- what larger than the Type A buildings at the depot. Available evidence allows only a general conclusion on the use of the depot. Because of its connection with Camp Huckstep, the depot is classified as used for military stor- age. The storage of explosives is suggested by the presence of probable fuze storage houses, but no large quantity of high explosives could be stored at the depot because the warehouses are close to each other and have no blast protection between them. The absence of visible security measures at the depot is unusual. It is possible that security fencing will be erected after completion of the con- struction. Photography since the mission is not of large enough scale to allow observation of fences.
