There is a newly constructed segment of track on the west side of Pukch'ang-ni Airfield (393ON-12558E) which replaces part of the rail line on the east side of the field, which has been abandoned. /-Strip Map No. 17. 3. An analysis of photography covering rail line 4a revealed that the align- ment, gauge, and number of tracks is correctly shown on the referenced map. There is one segment, however, extending from Yong/San-Dong (3950N-12541E to Taech'on (3955N-12530E), which was abandoned, but is being rehabilitated. Strip Map No.27. (1~ (2 1. This memorandum is in response to the referenced requirement requesting a rail and traffic analysis of rail line 4 which extends from Sopo (.39o6N-l2544E) to Manpojin (4109N-12617E) and rail line 4a which extends from Kunu-Ri (also known as Kaech'on) (3942N-12553E) to Kusong (3959N-12515E)? The locations of rail lines 4 and 4a as well as the plots of the detailed strip maps are shown on the graphic index to strip maps. The individual strip maps show the status of rail lines 4 and a abandoned segments, spurs, and lines under construction). 2. An analysis of line 4 revealed that alignment, gage, and number of tracks was correctly annotated on the map (CIA/RR/ER 62-36, Transportation in North Korea: Achievements and Prospects 1956-1961 and 1967 Plan). There are three areas where new railroad construction is in progress. a. New construction has joined line la at Tokch'on to line 4 at Kujang Dong (3952N-12601E).
