In response to Requirement No. C-RR4-80,954 (c 94-64), a photo analysis was performed on KEYHOLE Mission covedagetofdNikolayev tSouth Shipyard 444 (NOSENKO), USSR, (46 57N-31 5 n dimensional characteristics - and, if possible, to Identify - a large vessel tied alongside the East wharf of the fitting out basin. This vessel has previously been Identified as "probably a DON Class Submarine Tencler/Command Ship. (See reference (b).) In addition., an attempt was made to identify other vessels berthed at the fitting out basin of the Nosenko Shipyard. 2. The hull configuration and topside detail visible in the KEYHOLE photography indicate that the vessel observed alongside the East wharf is a. probable naval combatant. Furthermore, it is quite likely that this vessel is still under construction - and that several portions of the topside super- structure and/or armament are not as yet fully completed. This, in part may explain the difficulty encountered In attempting an identification of the probable bridge area and the superstructure area abaft of the funnel. Given this limitation plus those of small scale and poor photo imagery, , nevertheless, possible to arrive at the following conclusions concerning this vessel: (a) Over-all dimensions are approximately 480 ft. x 60 ft. (b) This vessel does not appear to equate in topside detail with DECLASSIFICATION REVIEW BY NIMA / DoD 0j_ 115 :D 25X1 D G30UP / Eac'..~c~ ._ni r. ! t' 25X1 D Approved For Release 2001/03/30 : CIA-RDP78TO5439A000300210086-5 Approved For Release 2001/03/30 : CIA-RDP78TO5439A000300210086-5 25X1 D 1 61 SL-6R7 RUFF 25X1 D 25X1 D 3. A total of six large vessels and one probable large vessel were observed at NOSENKO Shipyard. In addition to the unidentified probable naval combantant (1+80 x 60) alongside the East wharf, the other identifiable vessels observed were: a POLTAVA Class merchant vessel (500 x 70); a probable LENINSKIY KOMSOMOL Class merchant vessel (565 x 70); a second probable POIJTAVA Class (500 x 80); and a possible MAYAKOVSKIY Class. Fish Factory Trawler (275 x 50). The length-beam figures represent the averages (rounded off to the nearest 5 feet) of four measurements, derived from the Mann comparator, made for each dimension. No attempt was made to have these approximate results correspond exactly with the known dimensions of specific vessels. One vessel (a probable merchantman - 380 x 60) and one probable vessel (also a probable merchantman) could not be identified due to poor imagery. An approximate scale drawing of the NOSENKO Fitting Out Basin, describing the position of each vessel observed, is forwarded as enclosure (3) to this memorandum. 1 tu~_ y5F Ezdudce ~...~, ~ , , 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D The prints were made from third generation negatives since the original negatives were not immediately available. 6. The photo analysis on this project was performed by CIA/PID/GMB (NPIC), who may be contacted on ext.'2548 for any additional information. TOP RUFF 4. Mensural analysis of all vessels, as well as the inner dimensions of the fitting out basin, was performed by the Technical Analysis Branch., TID (NPIC) - and the results verified by the project analyst. All dimensions used in this report are in feet. It should be noted that all measurements are approximate due to limitations imposed by poor image quality, film halation, and small scale. All measurements were derived from the original duplicate positive from KEYHOLE Mission 25X1D Stereoscopic coverage was poor due to the very poor quality of the forward exposure. 5. Forwarded for your retention are one annotated photo reproduction of page 3 of US NAVPIC 103063901 dated November 1963, one approximate scale drawing derived from KEYHOLE Mission _ coverage of NOSENKO Shipyard Basin and the vessels observed therein,-and two uhannotated photo enlargements from KEYHOLE Mission _ coverage of Nikolayev (CIA/PID/GMB/P-641/64 and P-642/64). 7.
