1. This memorandum is in response to the above referenced requirement
requesting a detailed analysis, using comparative photo coverage, of the Ben
~ Thuy, North Viet-Nam Port Facilities.
2. Ben Thuy is located two nautical miles southeast of Vinh North Viet-
25X1 D I~a_m at 18?~8'I1 10 o~+~'E. The port, as interpreted from
25X1 has one off-sh?re ~?rharf ~?rhich has approximately X50 feet
o erthage and is approximately 35 feet ~?ride. This ~?rharf is approximately
200 feet from the shore-line. Docked here s?rere tiro coastal freighters, each
approxin^~ate1y165 feet long, and tt?ro sma11 junl~s, probably motorized. Associated
with this wharf are four iaarehouses, each approximately 160 by ~+5 feet, and one
irregular shaped storage building. `
' Tjao nautical miles dcwn stream from the offshore wharf is a single "L"
head pier ~rhich extends 130 feet into the river and is approximately 55 by 30
25X1Dfeet. lriis pier is used for loading and unloading petroleum and has eleven oil
storage tanks associated with it. Two tankers were-noted docked here on -
~5X1D One of these tankers is approximately 110 feet
