June 1964 PP4O1OGRAPP4?C INTERPRETATION REPORT BARRACKS AREA BREST, USSR BELORUSSIAN MD Declass Review by NIMA/DOD NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION CENTER TOP SECRET This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center 1Plc !DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group. In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report. Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips, (D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am- munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields, (L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/ assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train- ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified facilities or tracking activity. TOP SECRET. 25X1 25X1 NPIC/R-450/64 TOP SECRET 25X1 BE Ni: None BARRACKS AREA (52-04N 023-46E) BREST, BRESTSKAYA OBLAST, USSR BELORUSSIAN MD 25X1 TOP SECRET Railroad, double track Railroad, single'track Road 25X1 TOP SECRET A barracks area (Figure 1) is located approximately 5 kilometers (km) southeast of Brest (52-06N 023-41E) and one km northeast of Brest Army Camp Southeast (AL-2). An all weather road provides access to Brest and to Brest Army Camp Southeast. No rail service was observed, but a rail line under construction was observed to-the south. The installation (Figures 2 and 3) covers approximately 90 acres and contains one ad- rriristration building, three barracks, threeve- hicle maintenance buildings, three vehicle sheds, 16 officer /dependent quarters, six storage buildings, ten support buildings and a figure-8 driver training course. The direct road connection between this barracks area and Brest Army Camp Southwest indicates they are associated. The installation is covered byfKEYHOLE missions Analysis of this coverage revealed the same general level of activity exceptfor a slight decrease during the winter months. RaI lroad Service A rail line under construction passes south of he area. Rood Service Area H contains 16 officer /dependent quar- ters and two storage buildings. Trackage indi- cates the buildings are occupied. An all-weather road provides access to Br~st and Brest Army Camp Southeast. Administrative and Troop Housing Area Area D (Figure 3) contains one adminis- tration building, three barracks, and one sup- port building. Trackage indicates this area is in Use. General Storage Area Area E contains four storage and seven support buildings. Trackage throughout this area indicates a high level of activity. Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area Area J contains three 310- by. 55-foot vehicle maintenance buildings, three vehicle sheds (two 200 by 40 feet and one 140 by 40 feet) and two support buildings. Five rows of possible vehicles were observed on coverage.
