This Qris one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installarion`l being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being""
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by ttf' NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1PIc (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1Plc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,_ _

This installation is located about 6 kilo-
meters (km) northwest of Zhitomir on the
northeast side of the Zhitomir--Novograd-Vol-
ynskiy railroad (Figure 1). The fenced instal-
lation *covers approximately 158, acres and is
surrounded by a firebreak. The site has two
access rail spurs and two access roads, one of
which traverses the eastern side and the other
the southern. Another petroleum storage in-
stallation, Zhitomir Petroleum Storage (BE No
is located in the eastern part
of Zhitomir.
The installation (Figures 2 and 3) contains
38 aboveground -tanks approximately 70 feet
in diameter, two semiburied tanks, and 14 small
aboveground tanks 'approximately 35-40 feet in
diameter. Small groups of the larger tanks are
partially protected by earthen embankments.
Embankments appear to surround each of the
.smaller tanks.
The installation also contains seven build-
ings, possibly for storage of petroleum prod-
ucts; four support buildings; an administration/
maintenance area with two buildings; and two
possible vehicle parks, one fenced and the other
containing two buildings.

DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
Railroad Service
Two spur lines from the Zhitomir--Novo-
grad-Volynskiy rail line enter the installation
from the west. One serves the northern sec-
tion and the other the southern.
Road Service
A road from Zhitomir passes through the
installation along the east side. A second access
road passes through the southern part and con-
nects with roads leading into Zhitomir.
Aircrpft Landing Strips
None in immediate area. Zhitomir Airfield
comprising sod-surfaced field 4400' x 4100' is
located 8 km -tti SE. _ Zhitomir/Skortiorokhi A%F
is located approximately f O km SSE.
Administrative and Troop. Housing Area
Area D contains two administration/main-
tenance-type buildings.
POL Storage Area
Area G contains thirty-eight 70-foot above-
ground tanks, two 70-foot (estimated) semi-
buried tanks, 14 smaller aboveground tanks with
a diameter of 35-40 feet, seven buildings (pos-
sibly for storage of other petroleum products)-, and five support buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1 is. a 220- by 100-foot . enced
possible vehicle park.
Area J2 is a possible vehicle park approx-
imately 350 by 180 feet containing two buildings
J or vehicle maintenance, one 90 by 40 feet
and one 40 by 20 feet.
