The site of the reported 6 billion-elect on-
volt- (BEV)synchrotron under constructio at

Yerevan, L'JSSR, has been identified on p
? .
Rraphy of excellent - quality from KEYHOLE
located at 4 -12-20N 44-29-OOE in the suburb
of-Nor rlrabkir, mmediately north-northwest
of the city of revan and on the west bank of
Razdan River (Figure 1). Collateral in-

formation indicates that the facility is part of
the Yerevan Physical Institute, which is 10-
'cated about )2.6 nautical miles (nm) away. l/

evident at the entrances. Since. construction
of the synchrotron and its associated research
and service facilities is still in progress, the
road system within the site has not been com-

The Kanaker hydroelectric powerplant is to

Analysis reveals that less than half of the
synchrotron magnet tunnel (item 6, Figure 3) is
complete. There is no indication that mounting of
the magnets and coils has begun. The associated
-experimental hall and laboratory building (item
7, Figure 3) is not completely roofed.
Five completed, apparently conventional
laboratory buildings are present at the site
(items 2, 15, 16, 18, and 22, Figure 3). All of
these appear to have roof vents. The state of
construction at the site and the lack of a
permanent road pattern, however, suggest that
the buildings are not yet in operation.

Another significant building (item 14, Fig-
ure 3) with an associated stack 135 feet high
is under construction just west of the magnet
tunnel. This building will probably be a
tedmplant.
