This report is one in a series on Soviet G~ound Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CI,~Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated 1Y1 puPIC. The photographic
analysis is,being performed by the NPIC Photographs Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), n the Production
Center 1Pic (DIA). The photographic analysis for h s particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division.

Nizhniy Tagil Ammunition Depot is located
(Figure 1) 8.5 kilometers (kin) west of Pokrav-
skoye (57-5&N 060-16E) and 11.5 km northeast
of the center of Nizhniy Tagil (57-55N 059-57E).
The installation is served by a spur of the
Sverdlovsk -Nizhniy Tagil line of the Trans-
Siberian railroad, and by a probable hard sur-
face all-weather road. The depot is located
3.5 km east of the Nizhniy Tagil Ammunition
Loading Plant 56 (57-58N 060-03E).
The installation (Figures 2 and 3) covers
approximately 135 acres and contains 28 re-

A probable hard surface, all-weather road
connects the installation with the main roads
serving Nizhniy Tagil. Secondary roads and
improved trails connect the installation with the
surrounding area.
Aircraft Landing Strip ,
The nearest aircraft facility is Nizhniy
Tagil Airfield Northeast (57-59N 060-13E), 7
km east-northeast.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
There are no administrative and troop
vetted ammunition storage buildings and one
support building. The area is probably double
fenced and has a fjrt-break twenn the fences.

facilitie appear to be located 3 km west at
57-57N 060-04E. This area has the appearance
of a civilian development and probably serves
as support for both the ammunition depot and
the Nizhniy Tagil Ammunition Loading Plant 56.
Ammunition Storage Area
Area F contains twenty-eight 120- by 40-
foot reverted ammunition storage buildings in a
probable double-fenced area, road and rail
served.
Other Buildings
One probable guard post is located at the
entrance to ammunition depot.
