This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a 1)1 \ VIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and dissetninated by NPIC:. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the N1'IC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Int-elligence Division (NPI(:), and the Production
Center IPIc (1)1A). Thehntographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1PIc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators, for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (13) road service, (() landing strips, .
(l)) administrative and troop housing areas, (F) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (11) other buildings and
facilities, (.1) equipment storage 'maintenance areas. (K) athletic fields,
rl.) small arms firing ranges, (\1) driver training areas, (N) tank "
assault gun firing ranges, 'f) flat trajectory firing ranges, ((?) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (1:) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities. (T) unidentified

A secured army barracks of approximately
45 acres, on the southeast edge of Sarnv (Fig-
ure 1), is served by secondary roads and has
rail access.
The installation (Figures 2 and 3) contains
two multistory barracks, one multistory admin-
istration 'barracks building, one multistory ad-
ministration building, one administration build-
ing, two vehicle storage buildings, and nine stor-
age buildings. An athletic field and a small-arms

firing range are also located in this installation.
The installation was covered b,, missions
between Build-
ings can be identified on the early, poor-quality
photography, but they cannot be interpreted
until later, better-quality photography: however,
there is no apparent change in the installation,
which appeared active on the latest coverage.
Rood Service
The installation is served by unimproved
secondary roads.
Administrative and Trooo Housing Area
Area D contains three multistory bar racks,
one of which is V-shaped and possibly used
for administration purposes.
General Storage Area
Area E contains one multistory adminis-
tration building and six general-purpose stor-
age buildings.,
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area
Area J contains two 155- by 20-foot ve-
hicle storage buildings, three storage buildings,
and one administration building.
Athletic Field
Area K is an athletic field.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is a 360- by .30-foot small-arms
firing range.
