1'iILis 109/6: (GUIDE,f-E Missile Mensuration)
Soviet Tactical Missiles (TM 30-278), dated
January 19(3
1. This memorandum is an response to your requirement dated 19 June 1964
which requests that PID (IPPIC) establish whether the GUIDELIIM missile
de-nloyed in Cuba, is different from the current PID (NPIC) analysis of
GUIIJJ LIPS .

In 'overall appearance, the GUIDTLII1E model depicted in this memo comrares
favorably with the- GUIDELITM model which was seen in Budapest in
An analysis of that GUIDEt ThE model is presented in J PIC Brief 1009%61,
(Photographic Studies of GUID17,II-1E I,LLssiles), and in TM 30-273 (Soviet Tactical
Missiles). Dimensions provided by these two sources vary ~:iith each other and
with the dimtnaions presented. In this memo. These variations are sho,.,-n belo.r.
2. There are four kno~m basic versions of the SA-2 GUIDELIIB missile
which have been observed to date. A report on three of these versions is
contained in NPIC Brief 1009/6.1 (Photographic Studios of GUIDELINE i-1issiles)
and the fourth version is described In PID i.Iemo P,/EB 109/64 (GUIDELIIE
Missile Mensuration). The GUII)EIfl , observed in the 1961,_ Moscow May Day
Parade is depicted here for purposes of comparison.
With the exception of the dark band adjacent to the nose probe on the
Moscow GUIDELINE (1964 May Day Parade),, no basic tructural-differences
appear to exist bet-.reen the two .missiles depicted in this memo. The sli ;ht
differences in mensuration can possibly be attributed to the relatively roor

It is not moo.m whether -these differences are due to human error i -
volving different and/or inferior materials used in these analyses, or
whether these dimensional- di ferences actually el:ist.
One other dimensional corm-orison :,-ith the four basic SA-2 versions can
be noted. The o,Ferala-lend- -h of the Pra_-ue feet, is
exactly the s -ne as the 'Cuban/I osco:r CUIDET.IIE described in this memo, but
ir_ . overall appearance the nose :robe and spoiler fins have distinctly
different corf iGurations and dimensions.
