The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center 1P1c (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the Production Center 1Plc. In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report. Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips, (D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am- munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and facilities, (J) equipment storage 'maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields, (L) srdall arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train- ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified facilities or tracking activity. TOP SECRET TOP SECRET TANK FIRING RANGES (40-43N 046-10E) KIROVABAD, AZERBAYDZHANSKAYA SSR, USSR TRANSCAUCASUS MD 4 I 2- 44- 1 48 i I TANK FIRING RANGES ^ Baku a~ TOP SECRET TOP SECREi Two adjacent tank firing ranges are lo- cated 17 kilometers (km) west-northwest of the center of Kirovabad. The 2 ranges occupy approximately 125 acres and contain a total of 6 firing lanes and 5 moving-target runs. Four areas containing a total of approximately 200 tent bases are visible along the northeast edge of the ranges. Three range support buildings are also present in the area. Al- though probably active, the two range areas did not appear to be in use on between F The Kirovabad- Akstafa double-track rail line passes approximately 5 miles northeast of the firing ranges; however, no off-loading facilities are discernible in the area. Three range support buildings are associ- ated with the 2 ranges. The installation is served by a probably- 2-lane, crushed rock/gravel road which connects to the Kirovabad-Shamkhor asphalt road just to the north. Range N1 is approximately 6,500 feet long and contains 3 approximately 3,500-foot lanes and 3 moving-target runs.
