Available 1: s locates k ADD h a information on Sector v of the Sverdlovs radar stations tentatively at Sterlitamak (53-38N 55-59E). 25X1D ph hic intelligence?/ from t ograp o reveals a Soviet Air Defense installation of advanced design lo- ca a at Orsk.Airf field (51-15'-145"N 58-37'-53"E)- The aterial confirms and precisely locates a Soviet Air Defense installation which probably represents the headquarters and one radar station of Sector V in the Sverdlovsk ADD. - DETAILS The area of responsibility of Sector V, as derived from generally centers around Orsk and is approximately bounded on Tne h by Sector IV of the Sverdlovsk ADD, on the East by the Siberian ADD, and on the South and West by the Volga ADD. 25 The acute lack of communications intercept from this area has pre- cluded an exact determination of the deployment and capabilities of the air defense elements within Sector V. The nformation,. however, has provided the initial evidence of an advance esign Soviet Air De- fense Center and radar station In this area. The Air Defense Center consists of two partially buried and revett- ed direction control. buildings, and associated headquarters,-barracks, and utility buildings. The primary radar installation is equipped with - a BAR LOCK acquisition radar, a STONE CAKE-height finding radar, and a MERCURY GRASS VHF communications installation-. The secondary radar in- stallation is equipped with two KNIFEREST acquisition radar, two FISHNET IFF equipment, and a MERCURY GRASS and DISCONE VHF communications instal- lation. The communications site consists?of a revetted communications building, three associated quarters buildings and- approximately six DIS- CONE VHF communications antennas. - COMMENTS Another installation similar to that at Orsk has been reported at Krasnovodsk to~ material. The Orsk installation is not harden- ed to the extent fiat a Krasnovodsk installation is, probably because - the location of Orsk in the Ural Mountains did not require the protection necessary at Krasnovodsk. 1. 3 AR C9 O1 and 3 ARU/C1O555- 2.
